Freestyle Design

Freestyle Design

Freestyle Dressage Coaching helps you turn your existing or planned freestyle into something that is rideable under pressure, clearly within the BD rules, and designed to show off your horse’s best qualities while ticking both the technical and artistic judging boxes.

Floorpan First

One‑to‑one dressage coaching focused on the marks that matter, so every session translates into higher scores in the arena.

Rideable Difficulty

Each lesson is tailored to the way you and your horse learn, combining technical schooling with clear, simple take‑home exercises.

Music that fits Your Horse

Whether you are riding your first Intro or chasing PBs at Medium, we build a step‑by‑step plan that fits your level and ambition.

Marks: Technical and Artistic

We balance confidence‑building with accuracy, so you feel braver in the ring without sacrificing the detail judges want to see.

Why Work With Me?

I’ve coached riders at clinics, camps and training days specifically focused on dressage to music, from grassroots combinations building their first Prelim freestyle to more established partnerships looking to polish choreography and push their artistic marks.

Because I judge freestyles as well as train them, I’m always thinking in two directions at once: how the floorplan will feel for you in the saddle, and how it will read to the judge on the day – technically, artistically, and in harmony with your music and your horse. My job is to take away the guesswork so you arrive in the arena knowing your pattern is rideable, your music fits, and every line has a purpose on the score sheet, not just in your head.

I'm Paul Cornish

A dedicated dressage coach, BD List 4 & Freestyle Judge, and lifelong rider passionate about helping others grow in skill, confidence, and connection with their horses.

With over a decade of experience coaching riders across all levels, I’ve made it my mission to deliver training that’s clear, structured, and built around long-term progress – for both horse and rider.

Coaching Philosophy

Clarity, consistency, Confidence

Every lesson I teach is grounded in three core principles:

Clarity

Riders must understand why they're doing each exercise. My sessions are structured, not random.

Consistency

Horses thrive on rhythm and routine. I help riders build this through repeatable systems.

Confidence

Whether you're aiming for Prelim or Prix St. Georges, I’ll support your mindset as much as your mechanics.

I don’t teach from ego. I teach from experience — as a rider, as a judge, and as someone who wants you to succeed without compromising your partnership with your horse.

What we work on

Tell me about you and your horse – I’ll reply with dates, location options and a suggested plan for your goals.
  • Test accuracy and lines that are easy to ride under pressure

  • Improved connection, suppleness and self‑carriage for higher collectives

  • Transitions that are prompt, soft and reliably repeatable

  • Rider position, feel and timing so your aids are invisible to the judge

  • Tailored schooling plans between lessons to keep you progressing

How We'll Train Together

I work with riders in two ways:

In-Person Coaching

Available across Essex, Suffolk, and East Anglia, I offer private lessons, group clinics, and show-day coaching.
Whether you’re developing your foundation or polishing your freestyle, I come to you – or we meet at one of the venues I regularly work with.

Online Coaching

Through video analysis and personalised plans, I’ve helped riders across the UK and beyond. You’ll send footage, receive movement-by-movement feedback, and gain access to long-term support that’s affordable, flexible, and effective.

Structured coaching. Clear results.

Let's Talk About Your Riding Goals

Send your existing floorpan or ideas – I’ll turn them into a rideable, judge-friendly test.
